Going green has never been more fun! Join the Science Museum of Virginia and partners including Groundwork RVA for an activity-packed festival exploring sustainability, natural resources and environmental science.
SMV is filling up the Garner Pavilion* with 35 community partners ready with hands-on activities to help guests learn more about composting, wetlands, bike infrastructure, solar power, recycling, watershed restoration efforts, native plants and pollinators, energy savings and much more. Volunteers from the American Chemical Society Virginia Section will also host hands-on stations where guests can taste sustainable foods, race nano-bots, make LED lightning bugs and more.
Right beside the environmentally focused fun will be food trucks and adult beverages for guests to fuel up to stick around and enjoy the festival all day.
In addition to the host of Earth Day partner activities, guests will also be able to enjoy Science Museum exhibitions, labs and demos. And don’t forget to visit The Dome! All the films playing during the festival highlight the awesomeness of the Earth. The new film Secrets of the Sea runs at 12 and 4 p.m., Birth of Planet Earth runs at 2 p.m. and Into America’s Wild runs at 3 p.m.
The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Earth Day activities take place from 12–5 p.m. Activities are designed for guests of all ages.
Earth Day activities are included with Science Museum admission, which is only $10 on April 13. Science Museum members, Virginia educators, military personnel and children 2 and younger are free. Dome features require an additional $5 ticket or member pass.
* Weather permitting. If the weather calls for rain, activities will be moved inside.
