Our Spring 2021 Fundraiser is Live Now!

#WATERTOTHRIVE

Richmond needs more trees. From lessening urban heat islands to improving air quality and creating accessible green spaces in neighborhoods that have been left behind, trees are place-making and life-giving. By holding water in place, they also decrease the amount of pollution-carrying run-off into the James River and its tributaries.

More trees need more water.  Groundwork RVA needs your help to ramp-up our capacity to keep all new and existing trees watered and healthy!  Your support during this campaign will help fund a “new to us” three-quarter ton work truck and dedicated watering trailer capable of distributing at least 500 gallons of water at a time. Thank you for increasing our capacity to #WaterToThrive to meet the needs of  the community’s new trees!

The community is engaged. Many groups and initiatives in Richmond are stepping up to help make a difference and grow Richmond’s tree canopy. From the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s “Greening Southside” to Happily Natural Day’s Sankofa Community Orchard, Southside ReLeaf’s community-engaged needs mapping, the Reforest Richmond coalition, the James River Association, Richmond’s Department of Parks and others - trees are being planted throughout the Richmond community to improve the tree canopy in urban and heat impacted areas.

Trees need water. Newly planted trees and seedlings need extra care and maintenance through the spring and dry summer months to ensure they survive and thrive.

Groundwork RVA’s #WaterToThrive is here to help!  Our youth-led Green Workforce and Green Team have been watering 50-150  trees for the last 3 years. Currently, we have 150 full size trees and 200+ mini red buds under our care, with the hope that the number of full size trees will nearly triple by the end of the year. With the number of new trees being planted, the community is turning to Groundwork RVA since we have demonstrated the capacity to #WaterToThrive, assuring a healthy start for these important additions to Richmond’s urban tree canopy.

From watering trees, to seeing their impact in healthy trees around the City, Groundwork RVA’s Green Workforce and Green Team are learning what it takes to “Keep Richmond Green.” This work is also helping Richmond see the contributions young people can and do make to this important work. Please help us help them #WaterToThrive!

Day by day, project by project, together we are changing places, lives and systems.
