Urban Archeology Corps (Age 16+)
Urban Archeology Corps is a collaboration between Groundwork RVA and Richmond National Battlefield Parks to train Richmond youth in the field of archeology through active learning, community engagement, and service in Richmond’s local and regional park systems.

The Urban Archeology Corps is an 8-week summer work program for Richmond Green Team youth age 14-18. It is collaboration between Richmond National Parks and Battlefields, Maggie L. Walker Historic Park, and the NPS Archeology Program. Funding comes from the NPS Youth Programs Office and the NPS Archeology Program, with support from Groundwork USA. The UAC program draws on archeology as a vehicle for a young people to learn about national parks and their surrounding communities, the diverse histories and resources that make these places special, and public service and employment in the National Park Service. In the process, participants practice civic engagement while earning hours towards noncompetitive hiring under the Public Lands Act authorities. Groundwork RVA’s Summer 2017 Urban Archeology Program will be held at Maggie L. Walker National Park, typically Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Youth participants will be compensated according to attendance and lunches and GRTC transportation stipends will be provided. (Rate – $7.25)

Green Workforce (Age 16+)
The Groundwork RVA Green Workforce Landscape program an opportunity for high school youth to develop landscape maintenance, urban conservation, and leadership skills, while earning an hourly pay. At the conclusion of the program, students will have an opportunity to apply for positions in parks and landscape maintenance and management, and to participate in Groundwork RVA’s National Park Service conservation teams.
Participants will meet on a select weekday from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Saturdays at TBD times. Students will be paid an hourly wage for their in the field time and for completed classroom activities.
The Green Workforce Landscape program is supported by Richmond based Wheeler’s Landscaping Training.
The Groundwork RVA Green Workforce Trails program an opportunity for high school youth to complete trail maintenance, urban conservation, and leadership skills, while earning an hourly pay. At the conclusion of the program, students will have an opportunity to apply for positions in parks and trail maintenance and management, and to participate in Groundwork RVA’s National Park Service conservation teams.
Participants will meet on a select weekday from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Saturdays at TBD times. Students will be paid an hourly wage of $7.25 for their in the field time and for completed classroom activities.
The Green Workforce Trails program is supported by REI and in partnership with RVA more & Richmond Cycling Corps.
